Senior Data Engineer

We have an urgent requirement for a freelance Senior Data Engineer for one of our sector leading customers for an initial 6-month contract with the view to extend.

Rate - €1000 Euros per day based on relevant experience (8 hours a day)

Location - 1 day per week on-site in Brussels (4 days remote)

Contract length - 6 months with the view to potentially extend.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, including ETL/ELT development, cloud-based data platforms, or building data products to support analytics, automation, or machine learning use cases
• Strong expertise in AWS cloud services, such as S3, Lambda, Glue, and Snowflake, with experience designing scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data architectures
• Advanced proficiency in Python, including writing modular, optimized, and production-grade code for data transformation, automation, and orchestration workflows
• Expert-level SQL skills, including complex query development, performance tuning, stored procedures, and database design best practices
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines using AWS Glue, Step Functions, and SQL-based transformation frameworks
• Solid understanding of data modeling principles, data warehousing concepts, schema design, and data partitioning strategies
• Hands-on experience with Tableau or comparable business intelligence and data visualization tools
• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines, including infrastructure as code, version control systems (e.g., Git), and automated deployment processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of diagnosing and optimizing complex data workflows for performance, reliability, and scalability
• Experience with Databricks, PySpark for distributed data processing, and Delta Lake for data versioning is considered a strong advantage
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in agile, cross-functional teams and provide guidance or mentorship to junior engineers.
